CATARACT SURGERY LENS OPTIONS
An intraocular lens (or IOL) is a tiny, artificial lens for the eye. It replaces the eye’s natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery.
IOLs come in different focusing powers, just like prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. Measurements of the length of your eye and the curve of your cornea will be made. These measurements are used to set your IOLs focusing power.
AS YOU PLAN FOR YOUR CATARACT SURGERY, TALK TO DR. KRISHNAN ABOUT YOUR VISION NEEDS AND EXPECTATIONS. HE WILL EXPLAIN THE BEST LENS OPTIONS FOR YOU.
◊ Basic Lens: The most common type of lens used with cataract surgery is called a monofocal IOL. It has one focusing distance. It is set to focus for up close, or medium range or distance vision. Most people have them set for clear distance vision. Then they wear eyeglasses for reading or close work. Standard mono-focal lenses are covered by Medicare and most insurance policies.
THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES ARE CONSIDERED REFRACTIVE AND ARE NOT COVERED BY INSURANCES.
Light Adjustable Lenses: The Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that can be customized after cataract surgery. The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that can be adjusted in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. This optimization is done by your eye doctor in the weeks following lens implantation through a series of non-invasive light treatments that take only a few minutes each. You will have the unique ability to adjust and preview your vision until it meets your personal desires and lifestyle requirements. The Light Adjustable Lens delivers superior vision outcomes that non-adjustable IOLs cannot match. You can learn more about the Light Adjustable Lens and if you are a candidate by talking to Dr. Krishnan.
Multi Focal Lenses: The first and only trifocal lens available in the United States. Enjoy a full range of vision and exceptional clarity, and reduce your need for glasses.
Extended Depth of Focus: Allows you to see clearly at far and intermediate distances.5 You may require glasses for reading small print.
Toric Lenses : Provides clear distance vision while correcting astigmatism.6 You may need glasses for clear near and intermediate vision.
CATARACT LASER SURGERY
Femtosecond laser holds your eye still while creating: • a laser 3D map of the eye • a precise opening of the lens • a softer lens for removal.
